PortugueseOn this Web page we discuss stigmatizing psychiatric diagnoses as they appear in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), published by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Our purpose is to eliminate the diagnoses of Fetishism (F65.0), Fetishistic Transvestism (F65.1), and Sadomasochism (F65.5) from the current version of ICD (ICD-10).
Our goal is not to change the American diagnostic system, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association. However there are people in the US targeting the corresponding DSM-diagnoses.

Prison sentences of three years are being reported in the press for British inhabitants who download SM images from the Internet or have them stored at home if a proposed legislation comes into force. In the US, web pages with safer S&M practice closes down in fear of legal prosecution. [READ MORE]

SM Germany starts ICD work
In 2004 the federal German organisation BVSM e.V. started the work to delete SM and Fetish diagnoses from their national version of ICD. This is important because, as with the earlier diagnosis of Homosexuality, the more countries that stop using stigmatizing national SM and Fetish diagnoses, the bigger is the possibility that WHO will follow suit. SM AND THE LAW
SM or sadomasochism is legal in Norway as long as consent is given and no serious injury is inflicted. It is illegal to leave somebody helpless in bondage, and a safeword is highly recommended. Spanner Trust. The Spanner Trust exists to defend the rights of sadomasochists of all sexual orientations and specifically to reverse the UK court ruling which made certain SM activities illegal even though all parties consent.
BVSM e.V. (Bundesvereinigung Sadomasochismus) cooperates with the ReviseF65 committee in the effort to remove stigmatising SM and Fetish diagnoses from the ICD classification published by the WHO - World Health Organisation. The BVSM is working at the deletion of these diagnosis from the national version of the ICD in Germany.Aims of the BVSM are providing a platform for projects and a network of German-speaking activists, collecting knowlegde, support science and doctrine, providing information, lobby and campaign for acceptance of SM people in society.

The Revise F65 project is established with a mandate from the 1998 Convention of the Norwegian National Association for Lesbian and Gay Liberation (LLH). The work is supported by the Norwegian Association of Gay and Lesbian Physicians HLLF, the Norwegian Society for Clinical Sexology NFKS, the 1999 European Conference of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA), the 2000 General Assembly of the European Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs  (ECMC) and the International Mr Leather 2003 John Pendal.The Revise F65 project group consists of SM/Leather/Fetish men and women representing organizations of leather and SM gays, - lesbians, bi- and heterosexuals, as well as professionals in sexology, psychology and psychiatry.
