All discussion group members–activists, professionals and others–are encouraged to post questions, opinions, news, or whatever SM human rights subject or professional subject you think might be interesting to the group. You can do this by sending a message to reviseF65@yahoogroups.com or by using the form at our Yahoo pages. By doing this, you reach all the members of the discussion group.
Language: As a general rule, posts should be in English, since we're an international group. Of course, there may be good reasons to post a message in another language, but in that case, those reasons should be briefly explained in English first. The point is not linguistic imperialism, but to include the whole group.
Warning: I suppose most of us can agree with the yahoo people that our discussions may not always be suitable for children. That is why a warning appears before you get access to the reviseF65 page on yahoo.
Username and password: It is common practice for all yahoo groups to require username and password to gain full access to the group's pages, but this should not be a problem. If you are a member of another yahoo group, you can sign up with the same name and password, and if not, you simply choose one when you sign up.
Approval: Every new subscriber has to be approved by the moderator, moi, and since I can't always read my e-mail every day, a new subscriber will sometimes have to wait for a couple of days.
[reviseF65] When you have been approved as a member, and receive a message from the reviseF65 discussion list, you can recognize the message in the subject line with brackets saying [reviseF65] or Re: [reviseF65]. If you hit the reply button, you'll send a message to all the members, not just the person who wrote what you're responding to. Use your good judgment to decide whether you should send a response to the list or to an individual.
Attachments: Some members get access to the net by telephone lines and pay for every minute. Think about that before you attach a document that takes time to download.
Commercial expoitation: If you want to sell a product or a service, there are other places to do that. Of course, recommending something the rest of us may find useful or interesting is allowed, even if you have an economic interest in it, but remember that revisef65 is a political and a non-profit project, so there are limits that should be respected.
Virus warnings are usually nothing but bullshit and may be harmful. They are categorically banned from our list.
Names: Most of our members have subscribed under nicknames or pseudonyms. There may be many good reasons do do so, but I think our discussions will benefit from interaction between real people with real names. There is also a political point to this: The use of full, identifiable names also indicates that we are proud of who we are and the way we have chosen to live our lives.
Anyway, you can get things done without going to the groups.yahoo site. You can do everything by e-mail.
